The Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney has released policies regarding safe ministry to children and youth, called the Safe Ministry Journey. You can find the Safe Ministry Journey documents at the new Safe Ministry website: www.safeministry.org.au.
The website contains information for survivors of abuse who may be seeking support, as well as information for leaders, parents and congregation members regarding guidelines for ministry with children and youth.
There are screening requirements for children’s and youth ministry paid leaders and volunteers, both under NSW law and the Anglican Church’s ordinances.
A person who wishes to work or volunteer in children’s or youth ministry at St Andrew’s must obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance that must then be verified by the parish. They must also undertake Safe Ministry training within three months of starting their children’s ministry, followed by a Refresher course every three years.
Our Safe Ministry Representative is required to keep records of leaders and volunteers WWCC clearances and safe ministry training.
If you have any concerns about the safety of children, young people or anyone else in our ministry activities, please contact us.
